Ingredients:

  • 300g of mixed meat (beef, chicken, pork)
  • 200g of basmati rice
  • 50g of sambol chili sauce
  • 2 large banana leaves
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon of ginger, grated
  • 1 teaspoon of turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon of cumin seeds
  • Salt to taste
  • Pepper to taste
  • 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil

Kitchen Tools Needed:

  • Steamer
  • Banana leaves
  • Mixing bowl
  • Knife
  • Cooking pot

Instructions:

  • In a mixing bowl, combine the mixed meat with onion, garlic, ginger, turmeric, cumin, salt, and pepper. Marinate for at least 10 minutes.
  • In a pot, cook the basmati rice according to package instructions until fluffy, then set aside.
  • Heat vegetable oil in a pan and sauté the marinated meat until it is fully cooked and browned, about 10 minutes.
  • Lay out a banana leaf flat on a surface and place a portion of the cooked rice in the center, followed by a portion of the meat and a generous dollop of sambol chili sauce.
  • Fold the banana leaf to create a parcel, sealing the edges tightly.
  • Repeat the process for the second serving.
  • Place the parcels in a steamer and steam for about 5 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld together.
  • Once done, carefully unwrap the banana leaves and serve hot.
